Curtis Howell
Curtis Howell is a very active accompanist and piano teacher in the Kamloops region. His piano lessons began when he was eight, and by the time he turned twelve he was playing regularly for church services. In high school he accompanied school and community choirs, as well as participating in them.
In 1993, he received his ARCT's in both Performer's and Teacher's disciplines. In 1993 and 1994, he was the official accompanist to the Provincial Festival for Kamloops, and continues to accompany soloists of all levels in the Kamloops Festival. While completing his Bachelor's of Education at the University of Victoria, he spent more time accompanying than he did on his own repertoire. While in Victoria, he directed the church choir for Royal Oak Baptist Church, sang in many productions from Mozart's Requiem to Mahler's Eighth Symphony, helped local high schools with musicals, and worked with a professional chamber choir called "Impromptu Singers" directed by Tony Booker.
He is currently a Teacher-On-Call for the Kamloops School District, maintains a private studio of thirty students, plays for two choirs (one in which he also sings), and works occasionally for the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra and the Kamloops School District when choral rehearsal is required. More recently he has forayed into studio sessional work and jazz teaching and performance. Most importantly, he loves music.
